Retirement Workshops for Organisations
Retirement workshops raise awareness of the challenges employees may face in retirement. It starts the process of planning to make the adjustments needed to achieve a successful transition.
When employees are clear about what the transition to retirement involves, they can make informed decisions about their future.
Conversations with older employees about their plans for retirement become so much easier and enable organisations’ planning for succession.
Pension reforms have enabled employees to have much more freedom about how and when they retire. That means there is often no longer a ‘cliff edge’ point of retirement.
That freedom can, however, generate uncertainty and anxiety for people as they consider their future.
When is the best time for me to stop work?
What will I do if I retire?
Am I still valued at work?
Could I continue working but reduce my hours?
Uncertain of the future, they may stay on longer at work than they would really like. This causes stress for the employee, problems for HR and headaches for the manager with an employee who has quietly quit.
Anxiety may mean they are less engaged at work as their thoughts and priorities are elsewhere and as a result they become less productive or effective. In turn, their negativity can impact on the performance of those around them.
If their concern is about being valued at work, they may leave earlier than they need because they feel they don’t fit in anymore. Valuable skills and experience which the employer could benefit from, may walk out of the door, with little chance to develop a successor.
One way of reducing the uncertainty and anxiety is by undertaking pre-retirement planning both financial and non-financial. Many employers are providing pre-retirement workshops as part of their wellbeing or age-friendly offering. Often those in younger age groups are just as interested as those whose retirement is more imminent.

Workshops
We offer a range of practical, evidence-based workshops exploring what contributes to wellbeing, fulfilment, and a positive retirement experience.
Our longer workshops lead to a personalised Action Plan covering each of the 8 Keys.
Workshops can be tailored to the needs of the organisation and provide an interactive experience for participants.
Introduction to Retirement
A 90 minute, online, workshop.
This session will provide attendees with:
a good overview of the challenges they may face,
a chance to air their concerns and anxieties about retirement and put them into context possibly creating a greater sense of calm,
more certainty about where to start planning for retirement and how to build a plan.
Practical Guide to Retirement Wellbeing
A half day workshop delivered online or in house.
The increased time available in a half day allows us to go into more detail with each of the 8 Keys and to introduce some exercises which start participants thinking about the challenges ahead.
This workshop is more interactive than the Introduction to Retirement workshop and enables participants to share much more about their thoughts and concerns.
Previous participants have said they feel more comfortable sharing their concerns with others and more confident in their ability to plan for retirement.
