Retirement Coaching for Individuals
Retirement is a great opportunity that many people from previous generations did not have; it also comes with challenges and adjustments that can be difficult to negotiate.
What will I do with all my free time?
Will I miss my old work colleagues?
Who will I be when I leave work?
Will I have a purpose to life?
Much of retirement planning focuses on money, yet leaving behind the things and people that have occupied much of your time while working especially if there is uncertainty about your future life, often receives little attention.
We have all experienced change during the course of our lives - moving home, switching jobs, becoming a parent. These changes will have required us to use or develop a range of skills to manage them successfully.
The change when we retire includes many practicalities that to some extent we have the skills to manage but it also brings a psychological and emotional transition for which we are largely unprepared. It is that transition that can be the most challenging part of retirement and is for many people the source of a lot of uncertainty and anxiety.
Retirement Coaching is a process of understanding what those challenges might entail, exploring what they may mean for you and identifying how you might tackle them, making adjustments to the way you think and what you do to make the transition successful.
Your Retirement Coach will support you through this process, introducing you to the potential challenges, enabling a safe space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings and begin to decide what you want your future to be like.
That will enable you to develop plans for implementing your vision for retirement so you can face the future with confidence and anticipation.
“Through coaching, I became aware that my activities were filling my time but not satisfying my need for more purpose. I have discovered that by changing my activities I feel more fulfilled””
